On September 8, 1966 the crew of the Star Ship Enterprise set out on a 5 year mission to boldly go where no man has gone before. Unfortunately, it only ran for three seasons beforeNBC pulled the plug on the show in 1969.
Short though that stay on air was, it developed quite a following. 10 movies and 4 Series have spun off from the original series. An animated series, fan films, hundreds of books, and hundreds of stories written by fans are just a few of the products that have come from the people who were inspired by this show.
Though Star Trek may not currently have any new TV series airing on the TV networks, the fans have not forgotten them. In fact, the web has become home to the crew of the Enterprise, only it’s a different cast playing the legendary crew. Fans have made some films and “webisodes” that are free for anyone to download.
One web series is aptly called the New Voyages. The webisodes pick up the story of the original crew of the Starship Enterprise, continuing the 5 year mission where it left off after the series ended in 1969.
Those fans looking for the familiar faces that they watched thirty years ago will be pleased to know that some of the actors from Star Trek: the original series or TOS appear in some of the webisodes. George Takei, for example, is guesting on the webisode entitled “The World Enough and Time” as Sulu 30 years older.
